Some motor boats are cruising in an area near the Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. "It's getting a little windy here, we'll see how far we can get to the harvest boat," said Olaver Gregorsen as he headed for the nets floating on the sea over a large area around him.

Mr. Gregorsen is the Managing Director of Ocean Rainforest. His firm is one of the largest seaweed producers in Asia, Europe and North America in response to the growing demand from various food production companies and several other industries.

The cultivation rhyme, anchored at the bottom of the sea, consists of 50,000 meters (184,000 feet) of netted rope, which can withstand rough sea conditions. The main structure is located 10 meters below sea level, so as to avoid large surface waves. Despite being located in the North Atlantic Ocean, Mr. Gregorson said, "The deep and nutrient-rich waters are very conducive to seaweed growth, with temperatures hovering between 8 and 11 degrees Celsius."
